HEAVY EQUIPMENT FIELD MECHANIC (SERVICE TRUCK)

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic performs diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy construction equipment primarily in the field to support the safe and efficient operations.

Functions

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems on heavy construction equipment and support vehicles.

  • Perform preventative maintenance services including fluid changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and inspections.

  • Respond to emergency and routine field service calls and able to be on call on the weekends.

  • Complete equipment inspections, maintenance records, work orders, and repair documentation accurately and timely.

  • Maintain service trucks, tools, equipment, and parts inventory in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

  • Conduct work in compliance with company safety policies, manufacturer recommendations, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements while working effectively with operations personnel to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull tools, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier objects with assistance or lifting devices.

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and around heavy equipment.

  • Perform repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, and back while using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Frequently climb on and off construction equipment, service trucks, and trailers while maintaining balance on uneven terrain.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate exposure to dust, noise, vibration, grease, fuels, and other construction-related conditions.

  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in a construction and maintenance work environment.

Requirements

  • Five years’ experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related components.

  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.

  • Must provide and maintain a complete set of personal mechanic’s hand tools necessary to perform routine field repairs and maintenance.

  • Valid driver's license and DOT medical card.

  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, service information, technical diagrams, and repair procedures.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy

Work Environment

Reports To: Assigned Superintendent

Work Location: Various job sites throughout the service area; work is performed primarily outdoors.

Schedule: Hours may vary based on project demands, workload, and weather conditions.
